As a big sister, we take pride in our baby siblings.
I have 4 sibbys. They range from 19 years old to 4 years old and everyone of them have an incredibly special place in my heart.
As a big sister, you are use to looking out for your siblings as they enter each new phase of life, snuggling the babies as much as you can, throwing ball in the yard, helping them potty train, playing princesses, or kissing their boo-boo’s.
When we leave for college we can no longer do any of that. We feel that they may think we left them or abandoned them, the younger ones at least.
My oldest sister is 19, so we are able to stay connected like friends and sisters due to her age, but the younger three are 9, 8, and 4. They are babies. I am always so afraid that they will never understand why Sissy can’t be with them as much anymore.
It is hard to leave our babies at home. We want them to know how much we love them, that we would do absolutely anything in the world for them and that college is just a part of life sometimes.
We wonder if they understand that and look up to us for those decisions or if it hurts them because they can’t snuggle with us every day.
We worry that they may feel that they cannot be as close to us as they once were.
We worry that they won’t tell us their deepest secrets anymore or keep us updated on their everyday stories.
It hurts to be away from your siblings. It hurts to see them grow up through pictures rather than being with them everyday.
We just have to remember that one day when they are older they will understand that it is apart of life to grow up. We have to visit as often as we can. We have to facetime them, call them, or text them simple a “I love you'” to remind them of our love for them. We have to remind those babies that we are always here even when we are hundreds of miles away.
Being a big sis is hard, but it is one of the most rewarding titles in life thus far.
So, to my sibbys, I love you all with the deepest parts of me. You are my pride and joy. I am proud of each and every one of you for all that you do. I am always a phone call away. Whether you lost another tooth, shot your first deer, or scraped your knee, I want to know it all. I am always always always here for you guys. I love you to moon and back!
