Because of Jesus…

Bad day? Bad week? Bad month?

You ever just feel like nothing can go right? People hurt you time after time? You feel like life has overcome you?

I use to struggle with this often. I felt like no matter what I did nothing would ever change. No matter how much I tried to befriend people, I was constantly hurt by these people. No matter how hard I tried to succeed in life, I felt like a tsunami was crashing on me.

Life is hard, but it does not have to overtake us. Much of what I am about to tell you I learned from Lysa Terkuerst’s books (MUST READ!!).

Nothing is going right in your life it seems, right? Grades are slipping, not enough time to get everything done, keep messing up at work, fights at home, tension with you and your friends, or whatever your problems are that seem to make it feel that nothing can go right- but it can! Sometimes, we lose focus of God and that is why it feels that nothing can go right. When we take our focus back to Christ we can see our problems turn into items to accomplish with his hand in ours. He can help us find the motivation and time to study, if we ask. He can help us figure out how to do better at work, if we ask. He can help us be a peacemaker at home, or find a better solution, if we ask. He can help us resolve the tension issues with our friends, if we ask. Whatever our problem is, if we present it to our father, he will see us through it. When we do not communicate our problems with Him, we are leaving Him out of the situation and He never forces Himself upon us. So we have to remember to invite God into our problems. He asks us to lay all of our burdens at His feet. When we do this, I promise it makes all of these problems turn into tasks to just check off the list. Our stress is gone, and our peace is here because of our maker.

Matthew 11:28-30

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light.”

1 Peter 5:7

Casting all your anxieties on him, because he cares for you.

Philippians 4:19

And my God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus.

People hurt people. Words hurt. Actions hurt. BUT, people love people. People speak kind words. People do use kind actions. Maybe that group of friends who says unkind, rude, or hateful things to you isn’t the right group for you. Maybe there are other people waiting for a friend just like you. So, here’s where I fall. I dwell on the hurtful things that are said to me or about me. I dig into myself trying to find the truth of these hurtful words. I cry, and I think. A lot. All this does is tear me apart even worse. Rather, what I can do instead is bring these hurtful words to my father. I tell Him, God these people say I am not pretty, to obnoxious, I laugh too much, I am too silly. He says, “my daughter I created you to have a fun personality full of laughs and humor. I intended for you to be this way so people will have a sense of ease being around you. I can use you to draw people to me when you are laid back and easy to have fun with. Do not let people tear down what I am building up. I will use you child, so let me keep working in you. I am not done yet. I love you. Always remember you are a daughter of the King.”
Sometimes, I think that we as a people forget what life is truly about. It isn’t about money, that is just a means to get through life. It isn’t about having the top of the line designer everything. It isn’t about having our names on the tabloids or being the most popular in the school, but if we do that’s great. Each of us are given a platform, and we can use it if we choose. Just for an example, my current platform would be my classes at UNCP, my job at Food Lion, my upcoming marriage, and social media (one in which majority of us have). Each of these places in my life I am able to use for God’s glory. My actions can speak His name. My words can do the same. We each have a platform. Don’t get caught up in the “one day I will have a better job and a better life so for now I will just be miserable day to day.” One day will be here before you blink your eyes and if you aren’t careful, that one day you will still be miserable. Often, we have to choose joy. When we choose joy on a day to day basis no matter the situation, life is suddenly not overcoming us, but rather we are taking each stepping stone that God has intended for us to take. God asked me to go to school, so here I am. I am happy, and even on my unhappy days I have a peace and joy that is something that does not just leave because it is a peace and a joy that Christ puts within us when we allow Him too.
This is a little wordy, so to sum it up: Life has NOT overcome you because Christ has overcome the world. Choose Him, His peace, His joy, and His guidance. You will find that you are not overcome.

John 16:33

I have told you all this so that you may have peace in me. Here on earth you will have many trials and sorrows. But take heart, because I have overcome the world.”
So, here is my mechanism that I used to help me remember all of this stuff to create a better me. Keep in mind, this is not a flip the switch thing. Not much is in life. Rather this is a daily reminder to yourself and one day you will realize that it is now who you are and that the past is gone.
Because of Jesus, I trust
Because of Jesus, I am fearless
Because of Jesus, I am invited in
Because of Jesus, I am forever cared for
Because of Jesus, I am loved
Because of Jesus, I am forgiven
Because of Jesus, I am joyful
Because of Jesus, I am healthy
Because of Jesus, ___________
Friends, declare these truths. Create your own. Choose joy. Choose peace. This world has not overcome you, but Christ has overcome the world.
There will come a day when every soul will acknowledge our father and praise Him. Friends, remember God has the best listening ear and the most great protective and guiding hands.
I hope this encourages you,
Hannah
